She was born in Utah as the youngest child of five. Her family was from Indiana. She completed her high-school education in Indiana at Jeffersonville High School and was graduating in 1992. Brigham Young University is where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications, which was awarded in 1995.
